Submittals and shop drawings
The submittal register, the packages themselves, and every review cycle tracked until each item comes back approved or approved as noted.
What this covers
- Submittal register. Built from the spec sections that actually apply, typically 05 12 00 structural steel framing, 05 21 00 steel joist framing, 05 31 00 steel decking, and 05 50 00 metal fabrications. Numbered, dated, and reconciled against the GC's own log so the two do not drift.
- Package assembly. Product data, mill certificates, bolt certifications for the ASTM F3125 grade specified, welding procedure specifications and procedure qualification records, welder performance qualifications, coating and paint data, anchor rod material under ASTM F1554, erection drawings, and anchor bolt setting plans.
- Transmittals and revision control. Every issue numbered, every resubmittal tied to the item it replaces. Revise-and-resubmit does not become a new item with no history.
- Review cycle tracking. Submitted, under review, returned. When a package sits past the review period in the contract, you get told before it becomes your schedule problem.
- Deferred submittals. Scheduled backward from the building official's review time and the engineer of record's turnaround, not forward from when you got around to it.
- RFI log. Logged, routed, and followed up until an answer comes back in writing. Verbal answers get written up and sent back for confirmation.
